Wasps
Wasps that establish themselves on residential or commercial buildings can become a problem, as they may be a nuisance and pose a risk to residents and employees. Nord Pest Control offers an effective and environmentally friendly solution for removing wasps, ensuring the problem is handled in a safe and sustainable manner.
Facts about
Wasps
The Role of Wasps in Nature
Wasps are useful insects that contribute to pollination and the regulation of other insects. Although they play an important role in the ecosystem, they can also become bothersome and pose a health risk, especially for those with allergies, when they build nests near humans.
Common Wasp Species in Norway
The most common wasp species in Norway are the common wasp, German wasp, and yellow-legged hornet. They are often attracted to sweet food and garbage, which can cause discomfort and increase the risk of stings in areas where people are present.
Prevention of Wasps
To reduce the likelihood of wasp problems, it's important to keep trash bins closed and avoid sweet food and drinks outdoors. This can help make the area less attractive to wasps.
Removal of Wasp Nests
If a wasp nest is discovered, it may be wise to contact professional pest controllers. They have safe and environmentally friendly methods to remove wasps in a way that reduces risks to people and harm to the environment.
Environmentally Friendly Pest Control
Wasps are most active in the summer, and it is safest to remove nests early in the season before the colony grows large. Environmentally friendly pest control takes nature into account by minimizing the impact on other animal species and the surrounding environment.

Bed Bugs
Due to resistance to insecticides and increased travel activity, the occurrence of bed bugs has risen dramatically in many parts of the world over the past 15 years.
Facts about
Bed Bugs
Bed Bugs in Norway
Bed bugs are found indoors worldwide and have become much more common in Norway in recent years. In Norway, the species Cimex lectularius is primarily found, but in the tropics, there are a few other bed bug variants, such as Cimex hemipterus and Leptocimex boueti, both of which also have humans as their primary host. The latter species is only found in Africa. In Norway, bat bugs (Cimex dissimilis) and swallow bugs (Oeciacus hirundinis) may also, in certain situations, enter indoors and bite humans.
Having Bed Bugs
The psychological stress of having bed bugs in the home is significant for many people. In addition to the uncomfortable and bothersome bites, many experience sleep deprivation and other reactions such as anxiety and depression. The uncertainty about how to get rid of bed bugs, the costs of expensive treatments, and other factors also contribute to the increased mental strain. If bed bugs are not dealt with as quickly as possible after being discovered, or if repeated attempts to remove them fail, the costs often increase significantly, while the risk of spreading and the psychological stress continue to grow as time passes and frustration with the infestation increases.
If You Suspect Bed Bugs After Traveling
We can heat-treat luggage for bed bugs. It is important not to bring unwanted guests home after traveling. Hotels, campsites, and other places with high foot traffic are very common locations for bed bug infestations. If you experience bites, it is a very affordable insurance to bring your luggage to us. We will place it in a tent that reaches around 80°C. This will not damage clothes or other items, but it will help combat the bed bugs.

Rats and Mice
In restaurants and businesses, issues with rats and mice are common. Nord Pest Control will help prevent rats and mice from developing in Bodø and the Salten region.
Facts about
Rats and Mice
Which Rats and Mice Are Found in Northern Norway?
House mice, wood mice, and rats are common in Bodø and Northern Norway. Of these three rodents, the one you are most likely to encounter in your home is the wood mouse. This species is even more common in houses than the house mouse.
What Attracts Mice and Rats to Your Home?
There are two main things that can attract mice and rats to your home. If you don't clean properly and there are food scraps on the floor or surfaces, rodents will love it! It's important to keep your house clean and tidy, with dry food stored in sealed containers. Rats and mice also need shelter, especially in the winter, to avoid the worst of the cold. Rodents will find a nice, warm place to raise their young. A heated home with many hiding spots is perfect, and a home with a lot of trash and clutter is even more interesting. Mice can fit through holes smaller than 2 cm in diameter, and rats need slightly larger spaces, so small holes on the outside can serve as a rodent door right into your home.
Signs of Rats and Mice in Your Home
A sharp ammonia-like smell is characteristic of house mice, while other mice leave little to no odor. Rodents need to gnaw continuously to keep their teeth short, so gnaw marks are often found. Rat droppings are about 12 mm long and tapered at one end, while mouse droppings are much smaller in size and thinner.
How to Combat Rats and Mice in Your Home
A major problem with rats and mice is always that the animals have ample access to food, water, nesting sites, and hiding spots. To successfully combat an infestation, a thorough cleanup (sanitation) of the area where the rodents are causing problems is almost always required. Both the outdoor and indoor areas must be cleared of trash and food scraps to reduce access to food, water, and shelter. Tall grass and bushes close to buildings must be kept low or removed. Anything that can provide shelter for rodents, such as firewood piles, pallets, boxes, etc., should be removed. Fallen fruit must be cleared, and any compost should be secured to prevent rats from accessing food. Feeding birds outdoors can also provide rodents with access to food, as can outdoor pet food, which can support large rodent populations. Trash bins and waste rooms must be secured. In storage areas, it's important to rotate stock to prevent pallets from staying in one place too long. Items should, as much as possible, be placed off the floor (at least 45 cm high is recommended). This helps with cleaning and prevents rodents from finding hiding spots. If you can eliminate all access to food, water, and nesting sites, you can actually eliminate the rodent problem. However, this can be difficult in practice, but it is important to do this as far as possible. Remember, during pest control efforts, bait in traps and poison must always compete with other food the rodents have access to.

Bird Proofing
In restaurants and businesses, it's easy for birds to find food. Nord Pest Control will help eliminate opportunities for birds to access buildings in Bodø and the Salten region.
Facts about
Bird Proofing
Gulls as Pests
Gulls can occasionally act as pests. However, a natural population of gulls cannot easily be classified as unwanted. Complaining about gulls messing up the rocks, dock, or boat outside a cabin, or about the birds making noise and defending their nests and chicks, is pointless. Like all birds, gulls can cause damage by contaminating food and feed with excrement. Their highly corrosive droppings can also damage cars, boats, facades, statues, etc. When gulls appear in large numbers, there can be a lot of droppings on boats, oil rigs, rooftops, squares, parks, and so on. Such bird droppings can also contain disease-causing organisms. It’s undeniable that in some cases, gulls can become a pest problem that needs to be addressed. As with all pests, prevention is the most effective measure. Preventing gulls from settling before the breeding season starts can stop them from nesting. Gulls like to settle on buildings to nest but also to have secure and good lookout points where they can scan for food. Vulnerable buildings should be protected from gulls with nets and wires, among other methods. Flat roofs are a popular spot for gulls. Securing flat roofs can be challenging in places with snow in winter, as bird-proofing equipment often ends up buried in the snow. It's important to regularly inspect all bird-proofing equipment. Even the smallest damage to the equipment can allow the birds to start nesting.
Pigeons as Pests
Pigeons often become a problem when they occur in large numbers. Their droppings stain rooftops and building facades, statues, pedestrian streets, squares, cars, and more. Gutters and downspouts can become clogged, and the highly corrosive droppings can damage car paint and materials used for roofing, facades, etc. Vegetation can be harmed in areas with heavy pigeon droppings, and an odor problem can develop over time. The droppings can make buildings and stairs slippery, increasing the risk of accidents. Pigeons can also pose a problem for food businesses when the birds take up residence around and inside the buildings.
Bird Nets as a Treatment for Pests
Bird nets are an effective and discreet way to deter birds. We choose to install black nets as this color is the most neutral and unobtrusive against other surfaces and colors. The goal of using bird nets is to prevent birds from landing on roofs, thus avoiding issues like nesting, droppings, and noise.
